| Porthoustock is a small cove on the eastern side of
the Lizard just south of Porthkerris. It is a convenient launch site for the Manacles but the steep pebbled beach necessitates a substantial four wheel drive for RIB launching. Inflatables are more easily launched. There are public conveniences just off the beach and there is usually a refreshments van during the summer months. The beach is shared with the local fishermen and divers should keep to the southern half of the beach. I am told that there is good shore diving to the north of the beach but I haven't tried it myself, one day! Getting there- from Helston follow the signs for the Lizard then turn left just after RNAS Culdrose. Follow signs to St. Kevern. Carry straight on through the village of St. Kevern, keeping the square on your left and keep on that road until you come to the cove. Services- Gary Fox runs "Dive Action" from the industrial estate on the left as you enter St. Kevern.

Caution Care should be exercised when shore diving or snorkelling due the the large volume of surface traffic. Boat handlers beware, there are several reefs between Porthoustock and the Manacles, many of them being hazardous to even the shallowest draught vessel. Study the charts and get local advice. |
