St Ives Add

Porthminster Reef (The Carracks)

An extraordinary shallow reef about 1/2 mile south of St. Ives. This is a rocky outcrop bordering on sand and, in summer months, provides shelter for a vast quantity of marine life.

On one dive, I saw wrasse, free swimming conger, John Dory, Pollack, edible and spider crabs, lobsters and a shoal of bass. Unfortunately I missed the Sunfish that the other pair saw.

Access with your own boat is difficult but it can be well worth the effort. Nearest RIB Launching is Hayle or for the easy option contact David at dive St. Ives. Max depth ~ 17m. Current can be quite strong on southeastern edge as the water empties out of Carbis bay. Further details contact- David at dive St. Ives.

Depth ~ 15m
